Translators, automation and why ‘post-editing’ is not the same activity anymore

In this talk, I reflect briefly on the different ways in which post-editing of machine translation can be currently conceptualised. I discuss different paradigms of machine translation integration in the human translation process based on results of a series of studies that examined professional attitudes to machine translation as well as how this technology is framed in the news. The talk examines implications of post-editing service models and of how the capabilities of machine translation are often advertised.
